Accident Epidemic: GM's Defects and Recalls
General Motors has been in the spotlight since February after issuing an allegedly delayed recall of over 2 million cars with defective ignition switches. This recall for faulty ignition switches that have been proven to shut off engines and that has resulted in at least 31 crashes nationwide has been followed by numerous other recalls by GM. Recalled models include the 2014 Buick Enclave, 2013 and 2014 Cadillac XTS full-sized sedans, and 2009-2014 Chevrolet Express vans. Various defects (such as ineffective gas gauges, disabled airbags, and nonstandard materials) have resulted in subsequent recalls by the company.
The 5 most recently reported defects, which include faulty taillights, defective tie-rods, the loss of low-beam headlights, ineffective windshield wipers, and malfunctioning hydraulic brake boosters, have resulted in the recall of 2.7 million vehicles from both the U.S. and Canada. These defects can cause dangerous accidents among motorists driving the affected vehicles.
While not always caused by manufacturing defects, vehicle accidents happen every day. If you were injured in an accident in Pennsylvania, contact Ross & Ross today at (814)-274-8612.
